BREAKING: Quad Cities River Bandits Opens 2021 Season in May, Home Opener May 11

BREAKING NEWS: While Major League Baseball is scheduled to start spring training Feb. 28 and Opening Day is April 1, the Quad Cities River Bandits will return to play a 120-game schedule, with their season opener on the road Tuesday, May 4, 2021, against the South Bend Cubs. The River Bandits home opener will be on Tuesday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Davenport’s Modern Woodmen Park. Single game tickets will go on sale Monday, April 19. BREAKING NEWS: Nearly a year after the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Women’s Basketball Tournament had to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, hope springs eternal. About half a football field’s throw ago, I wrote a column about an alleged time traveler from the year 2485. I wrote it as a joke, of course, because I can only take time travel so seriously. Go Team! 2021 Cheer and Dance National Championship to be Held at St. Ambrose, Davenport

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) 2021 cheer and dance national championships will return to St. Ambrose University, Davenport, in March. The championship tournaments were recently relocated due to a scheduling conflict with the Eastern Michigan Convocation Center. The championships will move from Ypsilanti, Mich., to Davenport, and will be hosted by St. Ambrose and Visit Quad Cities. The Quad Cities River Bandits will move up a level of play and become a Kansas City Royals affiliate, whenever the team ends up playing again after covid-19 mitigations. Major League Baseball announced today that the Quad Cities River Bandits and eleven other Midwest League teams will be moving up one level of play, as the team and the league have been promoted from Single-A to Advanced-A baseball. Regina Catholic High School are the Iowa Class A State Football Champions! The Regals defeated Grundy Center 52 -28 in a lopsided game which saw them up 31-7 at half before cruising to the title.
