Check Out Save Our Stages Fest, But Also Donate Closer To Home To Local Artists And Venues

October 16th, 2020

This weekend, YouTube and the National Independent Venue Association are doing an awesome thing for local music venues nationwide, and I’m sure many of you have heard about the star-studded Save Our Stages Fest. It’s the kind of huge, publicity-grabbing event that gets a ton of attention with people in markets across the country. Which is a good thing, because it’s for a good cause, and it needs to get in front of a large group of people to make that positive impact. I do not begrudge that at all, and I wholeheartedly encourage people to check it out, and any other event of that... Read More

Quad City River Bandits Cancel Season

July 1st, 2020

There will be no joy in Mudville, or Davenport, again this year. The Quad City River Bandits have canceled their season, in accordance with Major League Baseball’s decision to cancel the entirety of the 2020 minor league season. This is the second year in a row the Bandits’ season has been decimated, as the 2019 season was destroyed due to flooding in downtown Davenport. The outlook for the Bandits, minor league baseball and the mood surrounding the announcement is grim, especially given previous discussions to contract the number of teams in the minor leagues earlier this year and... Read More

QuadCities.com – Top 30 Stories Of 2019 (#10 – #1)

December 31st, 2019

And here you have them, the TOP TEN stories of the year, 2019. There were obviously a lot of big stories this year, but, these are the ten that we picked to have the biggest impact and resonance. Why did we pick these stories? A couple of them involved incredible achievements by local groups of people, achievements that are rarely accomplished by groups on the local level. Some of those involved achievements by groups of kids, which make them even more impressive, and also leave the possibility for even greater resonance later on down the line as those children grow and mature and work towards... Read More

Play Ball! River Bandits 2020 Season Is On, But Future Remains Uncertain

November 19th, 2019

The Quad City River Bandits will play their full 2020 schedule, despite an uncertain future after Major League Baseball announced its plans to potentially sever ties over 40 minor league teams, including the River Bandits. The MLB and Minor League Baseball’s Professional Baseball Agreement is set to expire after the 2020 season, ergo this season will remain unhindered by the new plan. According to an article published Saturday in the New York Times, a Major League Baseball proposal has been forwarded that would cut ties between 42 minor league teams and their major league partners. The Quad City... Read More

Baseball Hall of Fame Exhibit Is A Home Run

July 6th, 2016

With one-of-a-kind memorabilia and content from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. and a cool interactive component and feel, the Hall of Fame Tour at Modern Woodmen Park hit a home run with me and my son when we went to see it this week. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot adjacent to Modern Woodmen Park.
