Don your Dirndl or Lederhosen, crack open your favorite beer, and virtually join the German American Heritage Center & Museum on Sunday Oct 11 from 2 – 3 p.m. for Oktoberfest by the Numbers. Oktoberfest by the Numbers is a fun-fact filled presentation about Germany’s largest Volksfest by Kelly Lao, Executive Director of the GAHC. This presentation will be presented live over Zoom. Join the German American Heritage Center & Museum (712 W 2nd St. Davenport) on Saturday Oct 3 at 2 p.m. for a concert in their parking lot, featuring the Guttenberg German Band! The Guttenberg German Band is a traditional German/Bavarian village band with members from Guttenberg, Iowa and surrounding towns. The band consists of friends from all walks of life who practice together for the love of the German music. The concert will be located outdoors in our parking lot. World War II in Iowa Explored in New Exhibit At Davenport's German American Heritage Museum

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, as Japan unconditionally surrendered to the Allies on Aug. 14, 1945. To commemorate the end of the global conflict (which killed 416,800 U.S. military), the German American Heritage Center in Davenport has a new exhibit – “Valor & Victory Gardens: WWII in the Hawkeye State.” It explores how the war impacted Iowa. With this exhibit, the museum remembers and commemorates the period through local headlines, personal letters, and historic artifacts. World War II cost the lives of 5,633 Iowa soldiers, as well as 18,601 from Illinois.... Read More
