Join the German American Heritage Center on Sunday, July 26th at 2pm for Midwifery In Early Scott County, a virtual program presented by Kathryn Kuntz, Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Supervisor. Mid to late 19th century brought many families to eastern Iowa and Scott County. Growing families required expertise and skill of safely bringing infants into the world. In this presentation, we will explore how midwifery, one of many occupations, was brought with German immigrants to their new homeland. Historic Walking Tours are back! The German American Heritage Center & Museum (712 W 2nd St. Davenport) will begin their Historic Walking Tours this Thursday Jul 9. Summer walking tours will be available by appointment online Thursday – Saturday between the hours of 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in July and August. GAHC Reopens Tomorrow!

The German American Heritage Center & Museum (712 W 2nd Street Davenport) is excited to announce that they will be carefully reopening with specific conditions on Tuesday, June 23. GAHC will offer ticketed and timed visits to groups of less than 6 every 45 minutes during their normal hours. They will be instituting new cleaning procedures, social distancing, sanitization areas, and mask requirements for those able. German American Heritage Center To Reopen June 23

After being closed since mid-March, Davenport’s German American Heritage Center will reopen with specific health and safety conditions on Tuesday, June 23. The museum at 2nd and Gaines streets, will offer ticketed and timed visits to groups of less than six, every 45 minutes during normal hours – which start at 10 a.m. Tuesday to Saturday, and noon on Sunday. The center will have new cleaning procedures, social distancing, sanitization areas, and mask requirements for all at the front desk, executive director Kelly Lao said recently.
