Junior Theater's 'Wizard of Oz' Drops This Weekend

Davenport Junior Theatre (DJT) continues its 68th season of theatre “for kids, by kids’  this weekend and next with the Wizard of Oz on the mainstage. Showtimes are at 1 and 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. “We last mounted the show in 2011,” said Daniel Sheridan, Artistic Director.  “Our Mainstage Company is far more dynamic now, with more resources and more students to help tell this amazing story.  In terms of cast, this is the largest show in DJT’s history.” Wizard of Oz involves over 50 students from 9 different area cities and towns in the QC. WQPT, PBS for the Quad Cities Region and the QC VET Center will host the 3rd Annual Patriot Derby Challenge on Saturday, February 15th at Western Illinois University – Quad Cities Campus (3300 River Drive, Moline). The Quad-Cities Hot Air Balloon Festival and Rhythm City® Casino Resort are proud to bring you the 2020 festival in a new, unique location. This year’s event will be hosted onsite at Rhythm City Casino in Davenport, IA on Friday, August 14 through Saturday, August 15. Gates open at 4 PM daily. A revolution of ideas and imagination was celebrated at Rock Island’s Eugene Field elementary school this week, as the Wax Museum Science Fair featured sixth graders giving creative and elaborate presentations on a variety of impactful inventors who changed our world. Moms and their sons can enjoy a fun night together courtesy of Davenport Parks and Rec at the Mother Son Formal dance March 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the RiverCenter. Davenport’s Parks and Recreation department is hosting their annual Mother Son Formal on Sunday Mar 8 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the RiverCenter (136 E 3rd Street Davenport). Family fun and philanthropy were “in the bag” as Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 25 sponsored its third annual Veteran’s Bags Tournament in support of the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. On Saturday, November 9, the union headquarters in Rock Island opened its doors to the community as people of all ages enjoyed the relaxed fun of the popular backyard picnic game of competing to toss beanbags into remote targets.
