Viva Las Divas Drag Show Returns To Illinois' Speakeasy TONIGHT!

Drag shows are hardly a drag. If you’ve ever been to one, you know that they’re all over-the-top flamboyance, attitude and above all, raucous fun. That’s certainly the case with Viva Las Divas. The regular drag show at the Circa Speakeasy, 1818 3rd St., Rock Island, returns with a gig TONIGHT, doors open at 7, you get your tickets at the door or by calling 786-7733, ext. 2, and if you’re looking for a colorful, sassy, bawdy, funny evening out, I suggest you check it out. I went to the last Viva show, and have been to a few drag shows before. I have a couple of friends who do drag, and... Read More

Moline's Black Box Theatre Opens 'Natural Shocks' Tonight

The downtown Moline Black Box Theatre presents Lauren Gunderson’s play “Natural Shocks.” Based on Hamlet’s “To be or not to be,” Natural Shocks is one act, tour-de-force that bursts to life when we meet a woman waiting out an imminent tornado in her basement. Angela, our fast-talking heroine, overflows with quirks, stories, and a final secret that puts the reality of guns in America in your very lap. The play is part confessional, part stand up, and part reckoning. The play deals with a difficult topic, and is not recommended for young children. The play’s production team includes:... Read More

Quad City Historian Seeking Buddy Holly Photos

Dear Quad-City Rock ‘n’ Rollers,   I am Buddy Holly historian and researcher on the lookout for any fans out there that possibly attended one of his very last shows at the famous Capitol Theatre in Davenport, IA on January 29th, 1959. Four days later, his plane crashed soon after a show in Clear Lake, IA killing him, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Don McLean immortalized that moment as “The Day The Music Died” in his rock anthem American Pie. This Davenport stop also happens to be the only show where no photos has surfaced from…yet!   Please reach out to me if you, or someone... Read More

New Queen Musical At Rock Island’s Circa ’21 Really ‘Rocks’

New Queen Musical At Rock Island's Circa '21 Really 'Rocks'

If you love the music of Queen (as I do), and you love creative and original visual spectacles on stage (I do), and you love so-dumb-it’s-funny humor (ditto), then you’ll love “We Will Rock You,” the Queen jukebox musical playing at Rock Island’s Circa ’21 through March 11. (Call (309) 786-7733, ext. 2 for tickets and showtimes.) I’ve honestly never seen a show quite like this at Circa before, and I mean that as a compliment. It’s just so different looking and feeling from most of the stuff that hits their stage that it’s both exhilarating and... Read More

Powerful “Apples in Winter” Hits The Mockingbird Stage This Weekend

We Twenty-two years ago, Miriam’s son, Robert, committed a horrible crime while in the grips of withdrawal. Robert was caught, tried, and convicted of first-degree murder and has been sitting on death row ever since. In seven hours the state will execute him. As is the tradition, Robert is granted a last meal. His request: a slice of his mother’s apple pie. This is a play about monsters and the mothers of monsters. And about how we care for each other. And... Read More
