Two Rock Island High School Basketball Head Coaches received the 2022 Charles and Annie Robinson Education Image Award from the Rock Island County NAACP at the annual Freedom Fund Banquet and Image Awards on June 25, 2022. Lady Rocks Basketball Head Coach Henry Hall will be starting his 5th season as the Head Girls Basketball Coach and had previously served 8 years as assistant coach. The 2022 James O’Melia Jr. Athletic award was presented to Rock Island High School dual-sport athletes Emily Allison and Marieon Anderson on Wednesday, June 8 at a Rock Island-Milan Booster Club meeting. The James O’Melia Jr. Award is considered the highest honor that Rock Island High School bestows on student athletes. One male and one female receive the award each year. Record $137,200 in Scholarships Go To Rock Island High School Seniors Tonight

The Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation (RIMEF) will award a record $137,200 to the Class of 2022 at its Austin Academic Achievement Awards and RIMEF Scholarships Night on May 11, 6:30p.m. in the RIHS Auditorium. 58 accomplished Rock Island High School (RIHS) seniors will receive $35,000 in Austin Academic Achievement Award (AAAA) scholarships and $102,200 RIMEF Named scholarships at the annual ceremony. Congratulations to our Rock Island high school welding and CNA students who signed letters of intent for local apprenticeships. Ten Rock Island High School students from the Welding and CNA programs joined 60 area high school students at the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce apprenticeship “Signing Day.” The students will start their apprenticeships in June. They will work full-time during the summer months. Coach Marc Polite was named High School Boys Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA). Coaches throughout the state vote for coaches in their region. The votes are based on coaches with great credentials that have had a successful season with their team. The Rock Island High School girls soccer team is leading both on and off the field! Fresh off a big three shutout wins in the Orion Invitational last weekend, and on their day off from SAT/PSAT testing, the RIHS girls players led soccer clinics at the district’s elementary schools. The Development Association of Rock Island, Inc. (DARI) is launching a scholarship program providing two $5,000 scholarships to Rock Island high school seniors to help kick off its community marketing campaign “Why Rock Island.” Applicants are asked to usetheir imagination to create a video or other visual that tells the story Why Rock Island is a great place to live, work and play. DARI will then use the stories to help market Rock Island. The deadline for applications is April 22nd.
