Rock Island High School Seniors have been named Illinois State Scholars! The State Scholars are honored annually by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission for exceptional academic achievement. The students represent approximately the top ten percent of high school seniors from 737 high schools across the state of Illinois. Davenport West High Diamond Dancers Score Big At Iowa State Dance Championships

The Davenport West High School Diamond Dancers achieved great success at the Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Association (ISDTA) State Dance Team Championships last Friday. The team received a Distinguished Academic Award (3.5-4.0 Team GPA), 7th place in Class IV Lyrical, 6th place in Class XIV Pom, and 4th place in Class III Kick. Junior Addison Aleksiejczyk also placed 2nd in Class X Solos, which is the highest soloist placing in school history! A Washington Jr. High student got to have her wish come true! Markelah Hicks suffers from diabetes and wanted to meet a princess so the staff at WJHS made it happen! They reached out to Miss Iowa, Alysa Goethe and she stopped by the school. Miss Iowa who also suffers from diabetes shared her story with Health, AVID, and Functional classrooms. Rock Island High School’s Cultural Club got together to have a Thanksgiving Feast. Students brought food from their cultures to share. Some meals included were Baozi from Thailand, Pan Ducles (Mexican desserts), Arabic pickles, curry dishes, and a lot more! Mr. Mwaga also made a Ugali soup from Kenya.
