Davenport West High Diamond Dancers Score Big At Iowa State Dance Championships

The Davenport West High School Diamond Dancers achieved great success at the Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Association (ISDTA) State Dance Team Championships last Friday. The team received a Distinguished Academic Award (3.5-4.0 Team GPA), 7th place in Class IV Lyrical, 6th place in Class XIV Pom, and 4th place in Class III Kick. Junior Addison Aleksiejczyk also placed 2nd in Class X Solos, which is the highest soloist placing in school history! Four former Buffalo Elementary students worked hard during their welding class at West High School under their instructor Andi Zinn, to create two custom bike racks for Buffalo students! The Davenport West High School Art Department would like to congratulate senior, Abbey Young, on being selected as 1 of only 9 students in the state of Iowa to make the All-State Art Team for the 4A level. Abbey submitted a portfolio of 10 works and an artist statement that was judged by 4 college professors and recognized as outstanding. Davenport West High School Students Earn Awards

West High School honored Students of the Month, department awards, and students earning Falcon/Kestral awards. Falcon Awards are given to 11th and 12th graders. Kestrel Awards are given to 9th and 10th graders. (A Kestrel is a small falcon.) Both are given to honor citizenship, leadership, and academics. Students were recognized with a breakfast highlighted by a keynote address given by Laura Engels, Director of Choirs at West High School.
