Davenport High School Students Build New Home As Part Of School Program

Davenport North and West students worked on the construction of this quality-built, Student Built Home in cooperation with the Davenport Community School District and the Quad City Area Realtors. The students were under the direction of Craig Peckenschneider, Student Built Home Teacher at North High School. Today, was the Student Built Home Celebration where the students gave tours of this newly-built home to the community. Davenport West Students And Teacher Heading to Kenya Next Week

A group of four Davenport West students, led by their teacher, Mr. Greg Smith, are headed to the eastern Kenyan village of Muamba next week to implement a student-designed water filtration system that will help bring clean drinking water to an estimated over 22,000 people. West students taking the engineering, design and development capstone class have worked on the project for roughly six years. Students finished the model for the fully functioning water filtration system last year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, creative, intelligent people are being asked to find new ways to meet unexpected challenges. That was the case when West High School teachers Greg Smith and Jason Franzenburg received a request from TJ Schneckloth, Superintendent of Davenport Community School District, back in June 2020. Data from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) shows that the number of people in the U.S. entering medical school in 2020 reached a two-decade high, with a total of 22,239 enrolled students. The 18th Annual Great River Show Choir Invitational is coming to Davenport this weekend, and you won’t want to miss it! Davenport’s Central and West High Schools are co-hosting the 2019 Great River Show Choir Invitational at the Adler Theatre (136 E 3rd St. Davenport) this Friday Feb 15 and Saturday Feb 16.
