The Davenport West High Publications Groups have BOTH taken home 1st Place in the American Scholastic Press Association National Contest. The Shaheen 2022 yearbook won first place for their book titled Seeing Double and the newspaper team received first place based on two of their 2022 print issues. Davenport West Students And Teacher Heading to Kenya Next Week

A group of four Davenport West students, led by their teacher, Mr. Greg Smith, are headed to the eastern Kenyan village of Muamba next week to implement a student-designed water filtration system that will help bring clean drinking water to an estimated over 22,000 people. West students taking the engineering, design and development capstone class have worked on the project for roughly six years. Students finished the model for the fully functioning water filtration system last year. The application period for the Thomas K. Evans Memorial Scholarship is now open! The scholarship is a merit-based, one-time gift for new college entrants pursuing education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Every year, the scholarship awards one local Quad-Cities student $5,000 to pursue their education. Applications are due by Monday, Feb. 27, 2023. Late applications will not be accepted. Davenport Community Schools’ board of directors has won an Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) Team Achievement Award for 2021-22. The DCSD board is one of only 15 across the state of Iowa that earned this award this year. The plaque is presented in recognition of the board’s support and encouragement for individual board member development. State Auditor Rob Sand will hand-deliver a pie to the leaders of the Davenport Community School District in recognition of their Public Innovations and Efficiencies (PIE) Award. Davenport CSD is the largest school to receive the 2022 PIE Award. Sand created the PIE program in 2019. It serves to encourage governmental entities to implement cost-cutting measures and spark innovative ideas to save public funds. In the last year, PIE participation increased by more than 55%.
