The YWCA of the Quad Cities recognized several RIMSD #41 teachers and administrators as Ambassadors of Change at the annual Race Against Racism 5K event on Saturday, May 14. Every year the Rock Island-Milan School District hosts its “Medal of Honor” program. The program was held at the Holiday Inn in Rock Island. The purpose of this award is to honor outstanding students who have proven themselves to be all-around good students, good citizens, and caring individuals who bring with them a positive force that helps to influence the school to be a better place to learn and grow. Rock Island Academy Starts New Coding Camp For Kids

It’s after three o’clock on a Monday afternoon and while most students have left school to go home, a group of students chooses to stay and learn. Laura Irish is a teacher at Rock Island Academy and started the Leopards Who Code club. Just in its first year, already 16 students have signed up. “I have some good social-emotional learning conversations with my students about gaming and apps. On Monday, January 17, the 39th Annual Memorial Service and Awards Celebration were held virtually. The celebration is held every year to honor the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Rock Island High School senior Jaylin Randle was awarded the M.L. Lockhart Scholarship. Rock Island High School senior Joshua Briggs won the Black Hawk College Commitment to Diversity Scholarship. In one week, several RIMSD#41 students will be performing at the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) All-State conference. Back in November 2021, 11 Rock Island High School Students were chosen to perform at the Illinois Music Education Association.  It won’t just be students representing the district though, two of our staff were selected to accompany students on a piece. BREAKING NEWS: Rock Island County Health Department released alarming new numbers for covid-19 cases today. According to the department, “Due to a 46.94% increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now reports Rock Island County as having a substantial level of transmission of coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease. The county’s positivity rate also increased 2.59% to 6.82% over the last seven days. The number of hospital admissions also increased 50%.
