Quad-Cities Museum Week Postponed

Quad Cities Museum Week, previously scheduled for June 6 – 14, has been postponed. Museums, in partnership with Visit Quad Cities, determined that the dates were not feasible for all museums to participate because of current COVID-19 guidelines in the Quad Cities bi-state region. The museums and Visit Quad Cities will regroup in July to discuss moving forward with a September or October date.  Quad Cities Museum Week launched in June of 2015 through efforts by Visit Quad Cities and area museums. Isabel Bloom has decided to consolidate its Quad-Cities retail locations into its East Village location, cutting its Moline store after 30 years in business and its LeClaire shop after six years. As Illinois relaxes its social restrictions Friday (including allowing all gatherings of 10 people or fewer), the Quad City Arts Center, 1715 2nd Ave., Rock Island, will reopen Friday at 10 a.m. Free entry is available 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 Saturdays. Family Museum Open Nearly A Week, Figge Art Museum Opens June 6

Bettendorf’s Family Museum and Davenport’s Figge Art Museum have taken different approaches to re-opening after shutdowns caused by the Covid-19 crisis. Since Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds allowed museums to re-open (among other places) on May 22, the Family Museum opened that day, while the Figge will open June 9, following members-only opening June 6 and 7. After so many shutdowns, economic devastation, and death caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, there’s something new and life-affirming opening in the Quad-Cities art scene. The Excelsior Studio and Galleria – owned by self-employed artist Melody Sloat, and her husband Jacob – will open Friday in a former antique shop at 13013 N. 700th Ave. (Route 19), in Cambridge, Ill., 40 minutes southeast of Moline. The couple bought the historic building, and did much clearing, repairs and renovations in preparation to open. There’s plenty of activity coming up over the next week in regard to spots opening up on both sides of the river in the Quad-Cities. According to the Chamber of Commerce: Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Tuesday announced the state will allow more businesses to reopen and mass gatherings over the next week, limiting capacity to 50%, maintaining six feet of separation between individuals and groups and adhering to hygiene and other public health measures in place. Join the German American Heritage Center on Sunday, May 31st at 2pm for “The White Rose,” a virtual program presented by Olivia Covert, Development, Volunteer, and Education Coordinator at the GAHC. The White Rose was a non-violent student resistance group in the Third Reich.
