Quad City Music Guild Youth Chorus Performing Spring Concert

The Quad-City Music Guild Youth Chorus will perform their spring concert Saturday, May 22nd, at 2:00pm at the Music Guild Theater. Under the direction of Valeree Pieper, Moline and accompanied by Randin Letendre, also of Moline, the Youth Chorus will present a program entitled Songs of the (QCMG) Season, which features selections from some of Music Guild’s past productions, such as Singin’ in the Rain and Oliver as well as the upcoming summer productions of Monty Python’s Spamalot, Mamma Mia and Matilda. Bix Museum Raising $12,000 For Renovation With Three Vital Artifacts

The Bix Beiderbecke Museum and World Archives in downtown Davenport is raising funds to renovate their permanent exhibit with three of the most important artifacts acquired to date. The $12,000 project will make it possible to permanently display Don Murray’s tenor saxophone and Bix’s tuxedo jacket and traveling trunk during the Paul Whiteman years in the museum. The saxophone was donated to the museum last year by Don Murray’s great-nephew, Justice Tom Harris Jr., and the tuxedo and trunk will be on permanent loan from Bix’s great-nephew, Chris Beiderbecke. Like many hospitality businesses during the past year, the 113-year-old Quad-Cities institution Lagomarcino’s has had a very hard time since the pandemic. As Wednesday afternoon’s beautiful blue skies blanketed the area, brighter days are ahead with the recent installation of a new parklet outside the ice cream parlor  and confectionary at 1422 5th Ave., Moline. Marc Polite In As New Basketball Coach At Rock Island High School

On May 11, 2021, the Rock Island-Milan School District Board of Education approved the hire of Marc Polite to be the boys’ head basketball coach at Rock Island High School. The hire comes after former head coach Thom Sigel announced his retirement early this year. Coach Polite is a familiar face in the Quad Cities and has 20 years of coaching at the NCAA Division 1, Division 2, junior College, and high school levels. Congratulations to RIHS student Riley Jones, whose piece “Black Pride” was selected as the winner for the Congressional Art Competition! Riley’s artwork will be on display in the U.S. Capitol! Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced the winner and runners-up of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District. The public got to vote for their favorite submission.
