‘Children of Eden’ Moved This Reviewer To Tears

Just uphill from a friendly little pond at Prospect Park in Moline, IL, lies an auditorium which is home to the Quad City Music Guild. As I arrived on the scene, I duly noted that the crowd gathering was a bit more distinguished and the staff was both friendly and professional. I made my way to my seat readied my writing utensils for what may come. Having known nothing of the play, I was unusually eager. “Children of Eden” is a play written originally played on stage at a religious high school. In ACT I, it tells both the stories of Adam and Eve and then Cain and Abel. In Act II, the story... Read More

Bix Beiderbomb Offers Show Even Better Than Cover Bands, Karaoke AND Gravy

It’s hard to believe that anything could be better than cover bands, karaoke and gravy, unless it’s a Nickelback cover band that leads a karaoke version of “Call Me Maybe” retitled “Call Me Gravy,” as they’re making gravy, but, as incomprehensible as it may be even within the realm of quantum physics, Andrew King insists that the new Bix Beiderbomb Presents MAY be even better than that. MAY be. He’s not making any promises or guarantees. So, if your to-do list for the week includes downing cheap beer, laughing at cheap comedy, being surprised by cheap thrills and stories and getting... Read More

August 11th, 2016
The two paintings, Alice, and Alice Enters Wonderland are both by Kristin Campbell.

LeClaire’s Alan and Kristin Campbell are taking local artists, fathers and daughters, “Down the Rabbit Hole.” That Alice in Wonderland theme runs through the father/daughter art show the pair have assembled to run through August at LeClaire’s Mississippi River Distilling Company, 303 N. Cody Road, featuring both paintings and mixed media. While much of the work does slant toward Alice in Wonderland, there are also Matrix-related and more abstract pieces. This is the first time the pair have had the opportunity to show their work together. Their pieces will be on display throughout the month... Read More

Springfield Rockets Into The I Wi On ‘Rocket Science’ Tour

His songs are fueled by huge, infectious guitar hooks often subverted by deceptively dark lyrics. His autobiography seeps with tales of debauchery, depression and a failed suicide attempt. He’s narrowly escaped death at least three times, he once registered a handful of kills in a war zone and his commercial heyday was marked by striking post-apocalyptic videos directed by “Seven” auteur David Fincher. Is it Marilyn Manson? Trent Reznor? Nope, it’s Rick Springfield, who will perform with opening acts The Fixx and The Romantics at 7:30 p.m. at the I wireless center, Moline. For tickets and... Read More
