The Solar Eclipse was a “totally” awesome experience for Rock Island school students yesterday! A HUGE THANK YOU to the Rock Island Public Library for donating 1895 solar eclipse glasses to the district! Students and staff across the district immersed themselves in this celestial event, from using their eclipse glasses to witness the view, to engaging in activities to create their own artistic representation of the solar eclipse, to creative lessons that explained what a solar eclipse is.  Read More

Black Hawk View Of American History Presented Nov. 8 At Rock Island Library

Black Hawk’s View of American History will be presented Wednesday, November 8 from 6pm to 7:30pm, at Rock Island’s Watts-Midtown Branch Special presentation for our 150th Year and Native American Heritage Month! Noted historical actor / storyteller Brian “Fox” Ellis portrays the reporter who published Black Hawk’s life story. Listen to tales from Black Hawk’s autobiography, along with traditional chants and drumming songs. Ellis is part Cherokee and has studied with elders from several tribes. Join us for TWO 3-D Printing events using our new 3-D printing pens! This free activity is offered through our Project Next Generation (PNG) grant for STEM/STEAM education activities for ages 8 through 18! February 13: 3pm to 4pm, Downtown Library Children’s Room, 401 19th Street February 20: 6pm to 7pm, Southwest Branch Community Rm, 9010 Ridgewood Road.
