Playing Pokémon Go? Want to try it? You can catch many of the elusive Pokémon creatures at the Rock Island Library’s Pokémon Go Night on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Main Library location, 401 19th Street.

The Main Library, which is already home to a Pokémon Gym and a PokéStop, will offer a night of Pokemon gaming, trivia, and fun for all ages. The library will activate a Pokémon lure and offer a map of PokéStops that are close to the library. Additional activities include Pokémon trivia, snacks and crafts.

The event is open to all ages, and is free. No registration is necessary.

Unfamiliar with Pokémon terms? Here’s a glossary:

  • Pokémon Go – a free to play, location based augmented reality game for Apple and Android devices. Players use the GPS feature on their phones to locate, capture, battle and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, who appear on the screen as if they were in the same real-world location as the player. Players must physically travel to play the game.
  • PokéStops – Virtual locations on the map, usually tied to places of interest in the real world, that allow players to access useful game items, such as eggs, Poké Balls, potions, and lures.
  • PokéGyms – Battle locations for team-based “king of the hill” matches for players who have reached Level 5. Players at this level can join one of three teams – Red (Team Valor,) Blue (Team Mystic,) and Yelllow (Team Instinct.) Gyms are usually located at places of public interest.
