Do You Want Your Water And Sewer To Be Run Like Mediacom, Rock Island?

Do You Want Your Water And Sewer To Be Run Like Mediacom, Rock Island?

We live in a divided world, in a community parceled by city borders and intersected by a river, but there’s one thing I think we can all agree upon. We all pretty much hate Mediacom. The absurdly high rates, the service outages, and the fact that most of us have little to no choice but to pay for them churns up a particularly virulent disgust towards the company. But, again, we have no choice, because they’re basically a monopoly, and until another viable alternative arrives, we’re pretty much screwed in dealing with them. That’s especially annoying because they’re... Read More

'Music Man' Review Controversy Raises Some Interesting Questions, And Answers

In the past 24 hours, a review on this site of Countryside Community Theater’s “The Music Man” written by Tristan Tapscott has become embroiled in controversy. So much so that it prompted a guest column from local actor Lou Hare, and my invitation, still open, for any other interested parties to send me rebuttals to Tristan’s review. As always, we look forward to hearing from people and stimulating conversation about the local arts scene, whether the responses are pro or con, particularly in regard to a review, which is an opinion of the writer meant to prompt thought and... Read More

UFOs Are Real, The Government Admits It, And Here’s A Creepy Story About It

UFOs Are Real, The Government Admits It, And Here's A Creepy Story About It

One of the strangest things to occur over the past year — and trust me, there’s a long list, so this is impressive that it hits the top — is that the government has actually come out and admitted the existence of UFOs and people’s reaction has largely been a collective shrug. The media covered it, but as usual, the media sort of winked and laughed at it, as if the Pentagon releasing video and documents which had previously been top secret was just a practical joke. It wasn’t. The information was actually real, and compelling, which is why it’s odd that people... Read More

How Will The World Change Tomorrow After UFO Disclosure?

How Will The World Change Tomorrow After UFO Disclosure?

“What is true, and I’m actually being serious here, is that there’s footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are, we can’t explain how they moved, their trajectory, they did not have an easily explainable pattern. So, I think that people still take seriously trying to investigate and find out what that is.” Who said that? Was it Giorgio Tsoukalos, the “not sayin’ it was aliens, but it was aliens!” guy? Was it Fox Mulder? Was it Harold and Kumar at 2 a.m.? Well, maybe Harold and Kumar said something similar,... Read More

Megyn Kelly Is Like A Drunk At A Dartboard When It Comes To Her Oscars Griping

Megyn Kelly Is Like A Drunk At A Dartboard When It Comes To Her Oscars Griping

I can’t say I usually agree with former Fox News outrage mannequin Megyn Kelly, but like a drunk at a dartboard, sometimes even though her aim is off, she hits the target. This can be seen in her latest tirade throwing red meat to the zombies looking for something to be angry about, in which she ripped on Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony and its skunky ratings, saying that the Academy Awards’ poor viewership numbers were because they were overly “woke.” “How’s all that incessant, insufferable woke, depressing lecturing via film, interviews, social media & at... Read More

UFOs Are Real. The Government Has Confirmed It. Are We Just Going To Ignore This?

UFOs Are Real. The Government Has Confirmed It. Are We Just Going To Ignore This?

There’s a phrase, whistling in the dark, describing someone scared who is taking any number of glib, superficial actions to avoid confronting the fact that deep down, they’re frightened out of their minds. This phrase is reminiscent of much of the media right now, as this week, and several times over the previous few months, the United States government and the U.S. military has admitted the existence of UFOs. This is not a joke. I’m not kidding. There isn’t a punchline at the end of this column, as there usually is. The U.S. government, the Pentagon, has admitted the existence... Read More

BREAKING: Sangeetha Rayapati Defeats Stephanie Acri In Hotly Contested Moline Mayoral Race

BREAKING NEWS: In a race marked by divisiveness and strife, with a flashpoint of dark money fliers featuring misspelled accusations sent out to voters, Sangeetha Rayapati has defeated Stephanie Acri for Moline Mayor. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Rayapati had 61 percent of the vote to Acri’s 39 percent. with 6, 319 votes cast. Acri won the mayoral race in 2017 as a write-in over incumbent Scott Raes after Raes challenged her candidacy and the candidacy of then-challenger Bob “Mr. Thanksgiving” Vogelbaugh over them allegedly misnumbering their applications. At the time,... Read More

Mike Thoms And Thurgood Brooks Showcase The Best Rock Island Has To Offer

I got two election fliers in the mail the other day. Being that we’re only a few days away from the April 6 election, and the mayoral race in Rock Island is, from most reports, closely contested between incumbent Mike Thoms and challenger Thurgood Brooks, this is not surprising. But what has been pleasantly surprising is the positive nature of this campaign. While the Moline mayoral race slides around in the mud, with a bunch of slanderous and poorly spelled fliers by a dark money group peddling lies about Stephanie Acri’s challenger, Sangeetha Rayapati, the two men vying for Rock Island’s... Read More

Will Acri’s Mistake Open The Door For Rayapati In Moline’s Mayoral Race?

Will Acri's Mistake Open The Door For Rayapati In Moline's Mayoral Race?

Stephanie Acri apparently has a very short memory. It was just four years ago, that previous Moline mayor Scott Raes was set to pretty much cruise to re-election. He’d done a pretty good job as mayor, voters seemed to like him, and there didn’t seem to be much reason to switch leadership for the city. Then Raes made the monumentally huge mistake of contesting the candidacy of one of the most popular men in the Quad-Cities, “Mr. Thanksgiving,” Bob Vogelbaugh (as well as Acri’s candidacy) over a ridiculous technicality that they didn’t number the pages in their... Read More
