I Sure As Hell Hope Rock Island County Board Knows What It's Doing With The Courthouse

And so the saga sort-of, maybe, kinda, possibly, ends. Or not. We’ll see. The Rock Island County courthouse saga has gone on for a couple of years now, with the county wanting to demolish the building and repurpose the spot just off Centennial Bridge, and a growing number of citizens calling for it to be sold to local developer Joe Lemon, who has been trying to buy it for over a year. We at QuadCities.com have covered this issue extensively, and if you want to get more of the details, I encourage you to listen to my various QCUncut podcasts of a meeting about the issue, an interview... Read More

The Pandemic Isn’t Over, Remain Vigilant Over Covid And Let’s Finally Get Through This

The Pandemic Isn't Over, Remain Vigilant Over Covid And Let's Finally Get Through This

There’s an old saying that you shouldn’t blame the messenger when you receive bad news. However, that saying is reliant on the messenger being a neutral party. When the messenger is merely the one bringing you the message, it’s without blame. For example, when we at QuadCities.com, give you a story featuring covid statistics, we’re passing along information we’ve gleaned from an official source. We also attribute that source, so that you know where we got that information. We have no part in creating that information. We do not make up the statistics. We do the duty of what the media... Read More

'Troubling' Data On Covid-19 Emerging In Quad-Cities, Rock Island County Health Department Says

Is another surge in covid cases coming to the Quad-Cities? Rock Island County Health Department sent out a warning about “troubling” data in regard to covid-19 cases. The RICHD posted the following on its social media: We are beginning to see troubling trends of case counts and hospitalizations starting to rise. About two weeks ago, we were seeing single-digit daily case counts and low numbers of people in the hospital with COVID-19. Since then, we are regularly seeing 20 or more cases and more people needing hospital care. We know there are more-contagious virus variants circulating... Read More

Rock Island Should Go Back To 3 a.m. Closing For Downtown

Imagine it’s Super Bowl Sunday, pre-covid. You’re in your home, minding your own business, watching TV, having a couple beverages with a number of friends, having a good time. Across the street, you see lights on in your neighbors’ houses. You see cars out front. They have guests too, and all of you are enjoying a weekend night. Suddenly, the evening is split by the flashing lights and squeal of two police cars, and an ambulance in tow, roaring down your street and pulling up to your neighbor’s house. Everyone is looking out the windows to see what’s going on. You all see your neighbor... Read More

Morgan Wallen And Gina Carano Stories Highlight Volcanic Divides In Our Society

So, a country music star, Morgan Wallen, is caught on tape using the N word, which is not acceptable. His record company, radio stations, etc. express condemnation of it. Right thing to do. He admits his mistake and is contrite about it, does all the right things under the circumstances and seems sincere. Again, right thing to do. And then… wait for it… wait for it… His record sales SKYROCKET. Now, do I think that suddenly racists were like, “You know what? I need something to listen to in the car, other than Gavin McInnes, so how about that country music... Read More

“Why Do You Write About Covid So Much?”

"Why Do You Write About Covid So Much?"

Imagine someone you love. Someone who truly has impacted your life. Someone you can’t imagine life without. Now imagine life without them. Imagine how devastated you would be, how drowned in sadness you would feel. I see people expressing this feeling every day on social media. People who have lost loved ones to covid. Their posts are heartbreaking. They exude sorrow and helplessness, as they struggle against the fact that someone who meant so much to them, who was so much a part of their world, is now gone. Many of these people are older. Many are parents, who were the foundation to their... Read More

Iowans Are Smarter Than ‘Covid Kim,’ And They’re Proving It

Iowans Are Smarter Than 'Covid Kim,' And They're Proving It

Yesterday, I wrote about the moronic decision by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds to do away with her already minimal efforts to mitigate covid-19 — just as statistics were showing that Iowa is one of the worst, and least safe, states in the country in regard to keeping its citizens covid-free. I’d say her actions were ill-advised, but apparently, Reynolds took no advice in regard to making them. She ignored scientists, healthcare professionals (you know, those people she loves to pose for photo ops with, and hollowly praise as “heroes” while undercutting them with her actions)... Read More

Iowans Need To Ignore `Covid Kim’ And Practice Covid Common Sense

Iowans Need To Ignore `Covid Kim' And Practice Covid Common Sense

When you allow people with less intelligence and common sense to think for you and inform your decisions, the results are seldom good. And that’s why Iowans — and those traveling through Iowa in the Quad-Cities and throughout the state — need to ignore the abysmal advice of short-sighted Governor Kim Reynolds and trust scientists and their own common sense and good judgement in regard to covid. Over 5,000 people have died in Iowa since the pandemic began, 60 percent of those in the last three months, according to the Iowa Department of Health. Sixty percent. Over the last three... Read More

Famous Astrologer Says To Expect A WILD Inauguration Week...

Anyone else got a bad feeling about this? Wednesday will mark the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States, and all indications are that it’s shaping up to be a wild week and strange start to Biden’s administration — and it DEFINITELY will be, according to one notable Astrologer who has predicted the election win and other major events. “There are multiple things going on on inauguration day that are worth discussing, however I said this before, I’m particularly concerned first about the 19th and then the night of inauguration day,”... Read More
