Local Businesses Supporting The Arts

Tour the Quad City downtown areas and you will find good examples of how creative people are growing as innovators – serving in a two-fold manner of providing products and services while supporting local creatives of all types. From artists to writers, local businesses are supporting a manifesto that CREATIVITY and the ARTS matter. This practice is economically benefiting our local community members and adding flair to tourism and recognizing the QCA as a cultural and vibrant destination point. It is this partnership that can also build a competitive advantage while assisting in advancing... Read More

Was A Member Of Color Me Badd Really Possessed By The Devil?

April 12th, 2017
Sean Leary

The Lord may work in mysterious ways, but the the way the devil works is obviously just plain strange.  For example, God has been known to communicate to we humans through burning bushes, the angel Gabriel and his son, Jesus Christ.  And beezlebub?  Well, apparently, he’s been sending us messages through the song “I Adore (Mi Amor).” Moline’s I Wireless Center will be home for the I Love The 90’s Tour this Saturday. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and go till 10:30 p.m. and you can get tickets here for the show featuring Salt-N-Pepa with DJ Spinderella, Kid N Play,... Read More

Kurt Oberhaus isn’t a house hold name… yet. But give it time. Quad City native Kurt Oberhaus is out to make a name for himself and make the Quad Cities proud. Now living in the “City of Stars,” Oberhaus is an actor and model who is coming up through the ranks. A film lover from birth, Oberhaus was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa. Get Ready For A Rockin’ Race In Today’s Rock Island Mayoral Election!

Well, you can’t say the Rock Island mayoral race has been boring. What was shaping up to be a genteel competition just a few weeks ago heated up in a huge way over the past three weeks leading up to today’s election. Not so much in the mayoral forums, which were contentious but largely civil. But in the campaign races on social media and elsewhere things got pretty heated between supporters of the candidates and there were some intriguing lines drawn between the four candidates – Andy Rowe, Stephen Tollenaer, Mike Thoms and Terry Brooks. Of course, all of the four have stepped up the competition.... Read More

And For Rock Island Mayor, We Endorse . . .

Election day is next Tuesday, April 4, and while we at QuadCities.com are largely in favor of bringing you the best of local entertainment and features, we also recognize the interest and importance of voting and its impact. So we encourage everyone, regardless of their choice, to get out and vote for the candidates they feel will do the best in their elected positions. Over the past few months, I, personally, have been honored to converse with the four men running for Rock Island mayor. This has been as part of QCUncut, my talk show podcast here on QuadCities.com, which offers uncut, unedited... Read More

Tim’s Corner Finding Its Way After Explosion

Tim’s Corner Finding Its Way After Explosion

As I mentioned in my last article I headed to the new location of Tim’s Corner to check out the new digs and talk to the owner. First off I’d like to mention that the parking situation in the Hilltop District is just as hectic as it’s always been, somewhat worse given that a section of 14th Street is closed off since the old building is unstable and is being propped up by wooded planks. So, I had to circle around a bit to find a parking spot. In the end I saw that their new location at 1303 30th St Rock Island had parking in the back, but if you plan to venture there in the future don’t... Read More

The ‘Rumors’ Are True: This Show Is Hilarious

The ‘Rumors’ Are True: This Show Is Hilarious

The reason the wheels were so well-greased on Playcrafter’s Barn Theater’ production of Rumors for several reasons: a.) The characters weren’t particularly likable, b.) the actors playing the characters are likable, and c.) Their Comic Timing Was So Crisp! Written by Neil Simon, and directed by Alex Richardson, Rumors is about hoity toity New Yorkers of the social class that can afford to enjoy the finer things, but are susceptible to bad behavior. As I got to know Ken, Len, Glenn, Ernie, Claire, Cookie, Cassie and Chris, I thought of Billy Joel’s “Big Shot.”... Read More

Tim’s Corner Has New Sunshine After Explosion

Tim’s Corner Has New Sunshine After Explosion

It’s been a surprising week for the Quad Cities comic community. The explosions at the Vintage Rose antique shop, which blew out the windows of the store and knocked brickwork from the exterior, though luckily there weren’t any serious injuries, have dominated the local news cycle. At on Monday afternoon I received a call from my father, he said “Tim’s Corner blew up.” I was understandably confused by this information. “What”, I questioned. “Tim’s Corner blew up,” he repeated. I was still having a hard time processing the information, but I asked if anyone was hurt. He said... Read More

Who To Look For (And Avoid) In Your Fantasy Baseball Draft

Baseball is back! And Fantasy Baseball is right back with it! We’re all preparing for our drafts and getting ready for the season, and here are some tips on players to look for and avoid this spring. Andrew McCutchen (OF)  He has been moved to RF, not asked, but told. Trade rumors persist, but he is an awesome fantasy performer.  Wanting to prove his worth, he is a keeper.  Even if he moves from the “steel city” he will be well worth it. Matt Wieters (C) He recently signed with the Washington Nationals, after playing some good years with the Baltimore Orioles.  Wieters could prove... Read More

Keaton Should’ve Gotten a Break For ‘Founder’

You ever watch a performance and wonder, “why weren’t they nominated for that?” That’s how I felt after watching Michael Keaton’s explosive and dynamic performance as Ray Kroc in The Founder.  This dude becomes Ray Kroc and within seconds you forget you are watching an actor, you are just watching a person. Keaton falls into this role with reckless abandon and takes you one hell of a ride. The Founder follows the saga of how mega-hit fast food restaurant McDonald’s came to be.  Kroc, a milk machine salesman, heads to San Bernadino, California, to check out a client... Read More
