Holiday Art Sale Taking Place at Western Illinois University Dec. 12-14

The Western Illinois University Department of Art and Design will host its holiday art sale from 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Monday–Wednesday, Dec. 12-14, in the University Union Brattain Lounge. The event will feature original artworks, including ceramics, prints, jewelry, photography and more. A portion of the proceeds from the sale provide financial support for WIU Art and Design students. Playcrafters Barn Theatre is excited to welcome back Creative Resources for the Langston Hughes musical, “Black Nativity.” The musical retells the classic Nativity story with an all Black cast. Traditional Christmas carols are sung in gospel style, with a few songs created specifically for the show. It was one of the first plays written by an African American and performed Off-Broadway in 1961. The show has successfully toured Europe. This Friday the Quad City Storm are back at Vibrant Arena at the Mark for Peanuts Night presented by Machinist Union Lodge 6 and Local Lodges 388 and 1191. The first 1000 fans receive thunder sticks and the Storm will be wearing Peanuts themed jerseys featuring Snoopy and Woodstock. Funds raised from the jersey auction will be donated to Guide Dogs of America & Tender Loving Canines. Western Illinois University was recently awarded a grant of $136,919 from Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust to equip and expand science laboratories on the Quad Cities campus. “We have known for some time that there is an unmet demand in the Quad Cities area for affordable, high-quality, STEM-focused programs that will provide the sort of skilled labor that area businesses are seeking,” said College of Arts and Sciences Assistant Dean Jim Rabchuk. “We are so excited that the Roy J. Western Illinois University graduate students from the School Psychology program met recently to prepare for potential internship positions, beginning in 2023. Graduate students from the Specialist in School Psychology program meet annually with district psychologists and administrators to discuss internship, graduate assistantship and practicum opportunities. Since the start of the pandemic, student-faculty meet-and-greets were forced to shift from an in-person format to virtual meetings.
