Out of thousands of entries, the Rock Island High School 2020 yearbook was recently recognized as one of the best yearbooks in the nation — the second year in a row that Rocky’s yearbook staff has received this honor. Herff Jones, a division of Varsity Brands and the leading provider of graduation and educational products announced its “best-of” publication, Portfolio, which showcases best-in-class yearbook work from students across North America. On Monday, May 10, 21 Rock Island High School students who are in the high school’s Education Internship program will sign letters of intent to further their careers at the college or university level to pursue a degree in education. The course started this school year and places high school students who are interested in the education field throughout the district in a range of classrooms from Kindergarten through High School underclassmen courses, English Language, and Special Education. Marc Polite In As New Basketball Coach At Rock Island High School

On May 11, 2021, the Rock Island-Milan School District Board of Education approved the hire of Marc Polite to be the boys’ head basketball coach at Rock Island High School. The hire comes after former head coach Thom Sigel announced his retirement early this year. Coach Polite is a familiar face in the Quad Cities and has 20 years of coaching at the NCAA Division 1, Division 2, junior College, and high school levels. Congratulations to RIHS student Riley Jones, whose piece “Black Pride” was selected as the winner for the Congressional Art Competition! Riley’s artwork will be on display in the U.S. Capitol! Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced the winner and runners-up of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District. Charlotte Boyer, a 17-year-old junior at Rock Island High School, made her national television debut Monday night on the final rounds of blind auditions for Season 20 of NBC’s “The Voice” singing competition, which began Monday, March 1.
