Iowa Reports Highest Death Total From Covid-19 Over Last Week

More people died from covid-19 in Iowa over the last week, and over the past month, than any other time this year, according to new numbers from the Iowa Department of Heath. Today, Iowa Department of Health reported 37 more deaths from covid, pushing the total to 2,349 since the first death on March 24. The new numbers reflect 222 deaths in the last week (Nov. 20-27), making it the highest week yet for covid deaths. As the rising number of Quad-Cities covid-19 cases put it near the top 10 worst covid hot spots in the United States, and other Iowa communities already fill the top 10, Iowa is enacting a number of mask and social distancing mandates to curb the spread of covid-19. Several Quad-Cities artists were honored this past weekend with awards at the 29th-annual Iowa Motion Picture Association (IMPA) award ceremony. Family Museum in Bettendorf Aims to Save $300K, Closes 2 Weeks in August

The Family Museum, 2900 Learning Campus Drive, Bettendorf, will save about $300,000 by closing two weeks in August, furloughing its staff, and leaving nine open jobs unfilled, among other budget cuts. The city-owned museum – which reopened May 22 after closing nine weeks due to Covid-19 — will be closed Aug. 9-23, due to a decrease in attendance and revenue since reopening.
