GARP Bringing Guided By Voices, Rentals, More To Codfish Hollow

The Codfish Hollow world according to GARP is one populated by an incredibly diverse and cool array of bands, and you’ll get to explore this brave new sonic location this weekend for the first GARP festival. The debut GARP gig takes place beginning at 4 p.m. Sept. 9 and noon Sept. 10 at Codfish Hollow, 5013 288th Ave., Codfish Hollow, Maquoketa, Iowa. It features five food vendors, two stages, 30 bands, free camping, free parking, hay rack rides, bonfires, art gallery, artists and art vendors, booze and more.

Families can view the night skies on Saturday, Sept. 10, with help from the Popular Astronomy Club at the Rock Island 30/31 Branch Library, 3059 30th Street. The Astronomy Viewing Night starts around 8:00 pm and will end at 9:30 pm. Popular Astronomy Club members will set up their high powered telescopes and mobile observatory in the 30/31 Branch parking lot, allowing participants to see stars, the moon, and planets such as Mars and Saturn. Two new events highlight the weekend at the German American Heritage Center, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. The first is a new exhibit, “Indelible Ink” opening Sunday, September 4.
