Moline's Black Box Theatre Opens New 'Three Viewings' This Week

The Black Box Theatre in downtown Moline presents “Three Viewings” by Jeffrey Hatcher, opening on Thursday, September 24. “We decided to visit Jeffrey Hatcher again,” said co-founder Lora Adams. The Black Box opened the theatre four years ago with “Murderers” by Hatcher and recently produced “Turn of the Screw.” “Looking for pieces that allow us to follow safety protocols for both our actors and audience has taken some thinking and once again, Jeffrey Hatcher has provided the answer,” said Adams. “Like ‘Murderers’ this is a tryptic of monologues and they are both hilarious... Read More

'Man With Bogart's Face' Appearing At Blackbox

Listen schweetheart, if you’re looking for a play that hearkens back to the good old days of radio, you should check out Black Box Theatre’s “The Man with Bogart’s Face: A Radio Play,” opening Oct. 11. In short, a man whose identity we never know has his face altered to look like Humphrey Bogart and is involved in a Maltese Falcon-type caper. And just like the film noire 1940’s movies there are dames and heroes and villains, oh my, all played for laughs. Reviewers called it “a fast-moving story with action and staccato dialogue that literally bring Bogart to life.”... Read More

QC Theatre Workshop at 1730 Wilkes Avenue, Davenport, IA is home to some of the most brilliant actors in the Quad Cities. The set, always perfect for the compelling scripts chosen for their cozy stage and the people are kind and welcoming. This local theatre brings you into the story, no matter what story. They are incredibly real and their skills at shutting out the audience is incredible. Every play at this theatre is like being inside of the book itself. It is just amazing theatre and deeply satisfying. I had known ahead of time that their latest, “Buried Child,” would be a soul wrenching... Read More

Cerny and Platt Make ‘Deathtrap’ Devilishly . . . ?

I really wanted to like Playcrafters’ “Deathtrap.” After all, it has a quality cast and crew, many of whom I know or have worked with in theater, so I know they’ve got the talent to pull it off. It’s largely a really fun script. Yeah, going in I really had high hopes for the show. I really did. You feeling the suspense? You’re wondering if I’m going to give it a good review or tear it apart, aren’t you? Good. Because that on-the-edge of your seat feeling is what makes Playcrafters’ “Deathtrap” such devilish fun. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, because watching... Read More
