Red, White And Boom Returns To Rock Island And Davenport Saturday!

The annual bi-state Red, White and Boom event in downtown Davenport and Rock Island returns on July 3, 2021. Activities start at 5 p.m. in Rock Island, 6 p.m. in Davenport and at 9:30 p.m., fireworks will be shot, in sync to music broadcast on 97X, from two barges in the middle of the Mississippi River. Spectators can watch from free viewing areas along the Davenport riverfront including LeClaire Park, Freight House Farmers Market parking lot, the new Quinlan Court and Bechtel Park, or from Schwiebert Riverfront Park in downtown Rock Island. UPDATED: Though the Mississippi Valley Blues Society (MVBS) in 2020 had to cancel its annual blues festival and Blues in the Schools education program, it was hardly idle. The completely volunteer-run nonprofit organization, founded in 1984, completely revamped its website, mvbs.org – with much more content than before. Free Juneteenth Festival Saturday at TMBC at Lincoln Center, Davenport

The annual Juneteenth festival in the Quad-Cities will be held Saturday, June 19, at TMBC at The Lincoln Center, 318 E. 7th St., Davenport, the former Lincoln Elementary School. Open since Feb. 1, 2021, TMBC stands for “Together Making a Better Community,” and the free Juneteenth event will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, including food and retail vendors, history and information booths, fun-filled games and entertainment for the whole family. QC Festival of Praise is back! The festival will take place all day Saturday, Sept. 5 at LeClaire Park in Davenport. The Quad City Symphony Orchestra (QCSO) plans to reschedule its Quad City Bank & Trust Riverfront Pops event to Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m., back at its longtime home at Davenport’s LeClaire Park. It previously was scheduled for Arsenal Island (for the second time) on Aug. 15. Red, White And Boom Illinois/Iowa Fireworks Show Canceled

There won’t be any bi-state fireworks along the river this year. The annual Red, White and Boom fireworks display in downtown Davenport and Rock Island has been canceled due to concerns and regulations tied in with the covid-19 pandemic. The date for next year’s event has been set for July 3, 2021. According to the event’s facebook, “Red, White and Boom always has been a bi-state event, and in the spirit of regionalism, we felt it was the right thing to do to move the event to a time when both states can participate.”  Read More

Mississippi Valley Blues Society Cancels Blues Fest

Since March, the Quad-Cities has been singing the quarantine blues. And due to the dissonant chords of Covid-19, that beloved music will be silenced later this year, as the 35th-anniversary of the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival is canceled. Though it initially pushed back the fest from the July 4th weekend, to Sept. 18-19, the Mississippi Valley Blues Society board decided “that it is in the best interest of our fans, artists and vendors to cancel a live Festival until the ongoing pandemic is far behind us,” president Bob Clevenstine posted on mvbs.org.
