Davenport Students Selected For Iowa Honor Band

Congratulations to the students and directors selected to the 2023 South East Iowa Band Association (SEIBA) Honor Band! The Festival is sponsored by the South East Iowa Band Association and is a one-day event, held at the University of Iowa School of Music. Our musicians will travel to Iowa City and participate in a full day of rehearsal and performance on Saturday, January 21st. Iowa Governor Reynolds Awards Second Round of Child Care Business Incentive Grants

Governor Kim Reynolds today announced a second round of grant awards targeted at supporting child care slots through meaningful business incentives. A total of $443,234 will be awarded through Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support five projects involving 11 participating businesses that will help create 77 new child care slots. The grant will help increase flexibility in how child care slots can be supported or expanded through employer-sponsored child care. Illinois Project NOW Adds Refrigerated Box Truck To Fleet

One of Project NOW’s newest fleet additions is literally a life saver. Project NOW’s new refrigerated box truck began hitting the streets last fall to help those facing food insecurity. The truck, which is grant funded, is being used as a mobile food pantry—providing food to areas that have been defined as “food deserts.” Those areas include the west end of Rock Island, the Floreciente neighborhood, East Moline, and Silvis. Rock Island Schools Benefit From Sales Tax, Spend More Than $64 Mil On Upgrades

Thanks to the 1% Sales Tax RIMSD#41 has been able to spend more than $64 million in facility upgrades in the last seven years! At last night’s Regular Board of Education meeting, the district’s CFO gave an update on all the projects that have been completed so far with School Facility Tax and ESSER (federal stimulus relief funds) Funds. Since 2017, the district has spent $64,767,596.90 on school facility upgrades. $45,262,455.95 was used from the 1% sales tax funds. Davenport West Students And Teacher Heading to Kenya Next Week

A group of four Davenport West students, led by their teacher, Mr. Greg Smith, are headed to the eastern Kenyan village of Muamba next week to implement a student-designed water filtration system that will help bring clean drinking water to an estimated over 22,000 people. West students taking the engineering, design and development capstone class have worked on the project for roughly six years. Students finished the model for the fully functioning water filtration system last year.
