Davenport Students Need To Reapply For Transfers For 2023-24 School Year

Due to the closure of three elementary buildings at the end of this school year, the elementary boundaries have been reconfigured for the 2023-2024 school year. Letters were sent home in early February notifying families of which building their student will be attending next year. If a letter was not received, families may contact their student’s current school to inquire. There will be 14 sets of two-sided panels are set up in the NorthPark Mall between Rue 21 & Express Men, half-way between JC Penny and Von Maur. Davenport West Students And Teacher Heading to Kenya Next Week

A group of four Davenport West students, led by their teacher, Mr. Greg Smith, are headed to the eastern Kenyan village of Muamba next week to implement a student-designed water filtration system that will help bring clean drinking water to an estimated over 22,000 people. West students taking the engineering, design and development capstone class have worked on the project for roughly six years. Students finished the model for the fully functioning water filtration system last year. The Davenport Community School District has received a grant from Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Education for $10,000 to help build the future of early childhood education and childcare in the Davenport Community. The Blended Early Learning in Educational Foundations (BELIEF) grants were awarded to 16 Iowa school districts to facilitate a year of planning and research for local committees. Tuesday, January 25, 2022, A Federal court decision ruled that a statewide injunction against the Iowa Mask Ban was a broader action than necessary. The case will now go back to the District Court for further review. As a result of today’s ruling, the Davenport Community School District will remove all universal mandatory masking requirements for students and staff throughout the district effective immediately per Iowa law. On Friday, January 21, 2022, the Iowa Chapter of Certified Public Accountants is personally donating a new book to several first-grade classrooms in the Davenport Community School District. Local CPAs will be reading, “When I Grow Up I Want to Be An Accountant,” by Dr. Adrian L. Mayse, CPA, to these first graders.
