In conjunction with the new Ken Burns PBS documentary on author Ernest Hemingway, WQPT will hold a special 30-minute virtual screening and discussion with Mary V. Dearborn, a Hemingway biographer featured in the film, on April 27. Recycle The Runway — a “Project Runway” style fashion show which will be streamed virtually — is a must-see Quad Cities favorite, presented by Dress For Success. Before the designers are even chosen, volunteers fill giant bags full of random clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. and number them. Once the designers are selected, each one gets to come pick out a bag with no idea what is inside. The designers then have 6 weeks to craft a “runway-ready” outfit out of whatever they find in the bag! The Western Illinois University School of Music will present a live-streamed Steel Band Concert, under the direction of Professor Rick Kurasz, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 16 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall. Western Illinois University’s student-run, broadcast news station, NEWS3, won a broadcasting award at the annual National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition, hosted by NBS March 28.
