Nearly $500K In Quad Cities Nonprofits' Grants Available

QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Illinois—The Quad Cities Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2023 Operations and Program Grant program. This year, the Community Foundation will award over $486,000 to nonprofit organizations in the Quad Cities region. Operations and Program Grants provide flexible and reliable funding for general operating support or program support for successful ongoing efforts. Nonprofits can apply for up to $20,000, requested as a one- or two-year grant. The deadline to apply for Operations and Program Grants is July 15. Western Illinois IIRA Program Helping Bring Grocery Store to Cairo Illinois

After two years of extensive work, the Alexander County city of Cairo, IL, will open a cooperative grocery store this month, thanks to assistance from the Illinois Institute of Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University and its Illinois Cooperative Development Center (ICDC). Through a project, headed by Sean Park, ICDC Manager, the store will hold its grand opening Friday, June 16, in an area that was previously considered to be a “food desert.” The partnership between the IIRA and the city of Cairo began in 2021, after Lt. The tour runs 10 am to 11:30 am; walk meets in Rock Island Downtown Library parking lot Free walk of the Broadway Historic District, led by members of the Broadway Historic District Association. Don’t miss this chance to learn about historic homes along 20th and 22nd Streets, and see the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum. About one mile, fairly flat terrain, so wear comfortable shoes. Free Summer Meals For Rock Island Families And Students Start This Week

Free summer meals in Rock Island start today! We’re offering breakfast and lunch at no cost to children under the age of 18 for the month of June, regardless of income level or school district boundary area. Meals will be offered at Edison Jr. High School (4141 9th Street, Rock Island) from June 5 -29. Breakfast is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and Lunch is from 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. Rock Island High School Students Sign Letters Of Intent For Education Program

Twenty-five students in Rock Island High School’s Education Internship Program signed letters of intent at a special ceremony yesterday. Education interns learn the foundations of education as well as gain hands-on experience. Interns work directly with district educators to observe and carry out a variety of classroom tasks and activities. Any student who goes through the program and graduates from a college or university with the appropriate education license(s) and endorsement(s) will be guaranteed an interview with the RIMSD#41.  Read More
