Downtown Bettendorf Organization Awards First Round of Façade, Interior Improvement Grants

Four Downtown Bettendorf businesses will share in more than $30,000 awarded through the new Façade Improvement and Commercial Interior Improvement grants by the Downtown Bettendorf Organization (DBO). DBO announced these grant recipients and projects: Façade Improvement Grants Tango Salon, 836 State St.; Leeann Themas, business and property owner; new façade work including milling headers, filling potholes and blacktopping the parking lot. Local officials, citizen scientists, and community organizations will gather on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Jetty Park in an effort to combat plastic pollution along the Mississippi River. The initiative is being directed through the leadership of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI) and the mayors of the Mississippi River, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme  and the University of Georgia. Local libraries have dubbed October as TeenTober, a celebration of area young adult services available to teens. The Bettendorf Public Library is seeking tweens and teens ages 11 – 19 to participate by reading and creating videos and submitting them for the community-wide TeenTober challenge. The Quad City Strikers Warriors 2008 boys soccer team is the top-ranked squad in all of Iowa! The team, coached by Juan and Christian Nuci, is undefeated at 15 wins, zero losses and one draw, and has been ranked number one in the state at the 2008 boys level since the beginning of the fall season in all but one week. BREAKING NEWS: New Iowa covid-19 numbers show a positive trend, but are still on “high alert,” with over 1,000 daily new cases for the eighth week in a row — a significant increase over summer’s 100 per day average. October numbers for Iowa are down 23 percent from September, with hospitalizations falling 10 percent over the past two weeks. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 598 Iowans are currently hospitalized for COVID-19, with 150 patients in the UCU.
