The Bettendorf Public Library’s music listening event series, Trax from the Stax, is offering an inside look at the creation of film score on November 11th at 7:00 PM. Davenport musician Neal Smith, who has recently composed, arranged, performed, and recorded a score of the film “The Land Beyond the Sunset,” will be presenting the program. Bettendorf Public Library event will look at the history of radio alongside WWII

The Bettendorf Public Library is offering a look at World War II history through radio with host Steve Darnall. The Community Connections presentation will virtually host the radio historian on Tuesday, November 16th at 7:00 PM. World War II was the first war in history to receive almost continuous coverage on radio. The presentation examines how radio rose to the challenge of life during wartime with sound clips from news broadcasts, presidential speeches, entertainment shows, and more. Local educators Julie Eisenband and Chris Strunk noticed a problem when it came to the representation of immigrant and refugee students in their classrooms. While these students were a strong presence in Eisenband’s courses at United Township High School in East Moline, one of the state’s most diverse high schools, they were few and far between in Strunk’s at Augustana College. The Bettendorf Public Library has set aside time for conversation, creating, and tea at its Craft-Tea event. Crafters aged 16 and up are welcome to bring their works-in-progress to the program for dedicated work time. LATEST: Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed a bill that would allow employees to escape employer covid mandates, including vaccination mandates, and allow greater use of medical and religious exemptions for people to refuse covid restrictions. On Friday night, Reynolds signed the bill, which the Iowa House and Senate had passed Thursday. It makes it tougher for businesses to require employees to be vaccinated or submit to other covid protocols such as regular testing.
