Rock Island Schools Offering Free Breakfast And Lunch To Children In June

The Rock Island-Milan School District is offering breakfast and lunch at no cost to children under the age of 18 for the month of June, regardless of income level or school district boundary area. Meals will be offered at Rock Island High School (1400 25th Avenue) from June 2 -29. Breakfast is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and Lunch is from 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Meals must be consumed on site. Rock Island Academy Starts New Coding Camp For Kids

It’s after three o’clock on a Monday afternoon and while most students have left school to go home, a group of students chooses to stay and learn. Laura Irish is a teacher at Rock Island Academy and started the Leopards Who Code club. Just in its first year, already 16 students have signed up. “I have some good social-emotional learning conversations with my students about gaming and apps. The celebration is held every year to honor the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Rock Island High School senior Jaylin Randle was awarded the M.L. Lockhart Scholarship.
