The Black Hawk College Quad-Cities Foundation is accepting nominations for its Class of 2023 Alumni Hall of Fame through Thursday, Dec. 15. Black Hawk College has a longstanding tradition of excellence. The Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding individuals for their professional and community service. Nominating petitions and other election materials for the 2023 Black Hawk College Board of Trustees election may be picked up at either BHC campus beginning Tuesday, Sept. 20.   Petition packets will be available in the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration in Building 1 at the Quad-Cities Campus, 6600 34th Ave., Moline, and in the Administration Office in Building A at the East Campus, 26230 Black Hawk Road, Galva (five miles south of Kewanee). On Monday, January 17, the 39th Annual Memorial Service and Awards Celebration were held virtually. The celebration is held every year to honor the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Rock Island High School senior Jaylin Randle was awarded the M.L. Lockhart Scholarship. Corey Kendrick is rootless no longer, and has returned full circle. An affable, down-to-earth jazz pianist, composer and recording artist, Kendrick is back in the Quad-Cities from Detroit and will be teaching music courses full-time at Black Hawk College’s Quad-Cities Campus in Moline starting this fall. “I love the music program at Black Hawk. A greater portion of people in Scott County have been fully vaccinated than Rock Island County -- 58% compared to 50%.

On June 14, when “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” returned to live audiences at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New Work City, everyone attending had to prove they were fully vaccinated against Covid. Same when Bruce Springsteen returned to Broadway on June 26. More than 500 U.S. colleges and universities also are requiring proof of Covid vaccination for students to return to campus this fall, but that number does not include any school yet in the Quad-Cities. Abbie Metz Named Coach Of Black Hawk College's First Women's Soccer Team

MOLINE (BHC) — Black Hawk College will launch its new women’s soccer program with a familiar face. Abbie Metz, a Black Hawk College grad, has been tapped to lead the team that will begin competing in Fall 2021. On Aug. 1, she will become the Braves’ first-ever women’s soccer head coach. “I look forward to working with her on building the program from the ground up,” said Arnie Chavera, interim athletic director.
