We are sending all the good luck to the Davenport Community School District Girls’ Wrestling team at the State Competition this Thursday and Friday, and to the Boys’ Swimming teams at Central and West at the State qualifying meet on Saturday! Rock Island High School Debate Team Takes Home Trophies From Illinois State Tourney

Congratulations to the Rock Island Debate team for their outstanding performance at Saturday’s tournament. Competing against the top programs in the state, the Rocks took home three team trophies and three additional individual medals. Leading the way for the Rocks was the team of Olivia Seidlitz and Haleigh Laud who finished the day with a perfect 4-0 record while taking home first-place honors in the JV/sophomore division of Public Forum. The Rocks wrestled at Wharton Field House last night in the Western Big Six Conference Tournament, taking 2nd as a team, finishing just behind Quincy. Seventh-grade Honors ELA students in Davenport Community School District had the privilege of hearing from a guest speaker, Judy Thompson, in class recently. Mrs. Thompson is a former pro tennis player from Davenport who also helped play a role in the passing of Title IX, a law allowing women equal rights in sports, education and other activities. She spoke about her life- her successes, challenges, and her impact on women’s sports. The board recognized 65 students who have maintained a 3.5 GPA or above for 6 semesters. At the Board of Education meeting on August 10, 65 Rock Island High School seniors were honored as Charles O. Austin Jr. Scholars. The students were presented with certificates of recognition for completing six semesters of study and earning a 3.5 GPA or higher.
