Rock Island Schools Hosting FAFSA Workshop Tonight

Rock Island High School is hosting its annual FAFSA Completion Workshop night! Families can receive assistance in completing the 2024-25 FAFSA. FAFSA is free and gives you access to the largest sources of financial aid to pay for college or career school. Black Hawk College is also hosting two FAFSA Completions nights. Western Illinois Girls Softball Takes A Split In Doubleheader

Western Illinois played two on Sunday, a doubleheader at Arkansas-Pine Bluff that saw the Leathernecks split the day, losing in the first game, but coming up victorious in the second. A massive day at the plate saw senior Gabriela Drager extend her hitting streak to seven games, as she went 5-6 with a walk, two runs, and two RBIs on the day. A Monday series finale saw the Leathernecks take a loss in a game dominated by pitching. Students in Edison Jr. High’s Publications Class are taking on a new project this year. For eighth grader Nora Clark, it was an easy decision. “That’s all I really talk about is shoes,” said Nora. The elevation behind sneakers is the topic she chose for her podcast. Nora and the rest of her classmates in Publications Class have been tasked with making a podcast. “I wanted to expose my students to different media and I enjoyed listening to podcasts myself,” said Publications teacher Lauren Hall. The LeClaire Community Library will be recarpeted and painted in February 2024, with preparations underway now. This project will result in a unified color palette throughout the building, and better flow and flexibility in the library space. It was financed by the City of LeClaire, with assistance from the Friends of LeClaire Community Library. This project is also the recipient of a Hubbell-Waterman Foundation grant in the amount of $5000, to purchase new furniture for the Children’s Area.
