Black Magic Drag Show Hits The Stage On Juneteenth At Davenport's Varieties Nightclub

Varieties Nightclub, 822 W. 2nd St., will be hosting a Juneteenth event titled Black Magic: Juneteenth Edition. The event begins Saturday, June 19 at 10:30 p.m. While there are other venues which host Drag nights and events, Varieties Nightclub is the only Drag Bar in the Quad Cities, which is a fitting place to celebrate both Queer and Black liberation this June. Free Juneteenth Festival Saturday at TMBC at Lincoln Center, Davenport

The annual Juneteenth festival in the Quad-Cities will be held Saturday, June 19, at TMBC at The Lincoln Center, 318 E. 7th St., Davenport, the former Lincoln Elementary School. Open since Feb. 1, 2021, TMBC stands for “Together Making a Better Community,” and the free Juneteenth event will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, including food and retail vendors, history and information booths, fun-filled games and entertainment for the whole family. Juneteenth – short for “June Nineteenth” – marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were told by Union troops that they were free. Since then, the date has become a national celebration of emancipation. After a year with no downtown Moline market, Mercado on Fifth is back to bringing its family-friendly festivities starting this Friday, and a new director is excited to expand the market to downtown Davenport. Mercado on Fifth in Moline (5th Avenue in the area of 11th to 12th streets) will run 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. every Friday, June 4 – Sept. 24. The new Mercado en el Rio in Davenport (Quinlan Court, off River Drive between Brady and Perry streets) will run 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. every second Saturday, June through October.
