MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Raymond Lawson, dean of online learning at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and Skokie (IL), has been named the director of distance education and support at Western Illinois University, effective June 1, while Jacob Bartels has been named the distance education support specialist, effective May 17. For the first time in 11 years, the Dixieland jazz of the 1920s will be part of Bix 7 race weekend, with a new music festival – The Heights of the Era, all day Saturday, July 24, in Davenport. “We really miss Bix Beiderbecke music being part of Bix weekend,” event organizer Michelle Solis Russell, partner in Russell Group (the Davenport-based construction and development firm), said Wednesday. Following the meticulous, painstaking preservation of a former one-room school in Bettendorf — completed in September 2019, after more than seven years — the project supporters envisioned reopening as a museum in early 2020. Then Covid happened.
