The revered and lauded local golf tournament drawing fans and sportsmen from around the world, the John Deere Classic, runs at Moline’s Deere Run course Thursday through Sunday. Competitors began teeing off today, with a wide-range of events and promotions surrounding the event. Favorites for the trophy this year include Vegas odds favorite Collin Morikawa. The 160-player field battles it out for a $6 million purse, with the winner getting $1.044 million. East Moline Spartans Win Muscatine Tournament, Chasing Top Ten Ranking

The 08 East Moline Silvis Soccer Club Spartans were already ranked in the top 15 in the state going into the Muscatine Soccer Club tournament June 9, and after a thoroughly dominating performance, it’s justifiable to see them chasing a top ten ranking soon. The Spartans completely demolished their opponents, outscoring AYSO, Quad Cities Rush and the home team of Muscatine Soccer Club by a combined goal total of 18-1. After a thrilling 7-6 championship win on penalty kicks in the Armed Forces Cup, the U11 East Moline Silvis Soccer Club Spartans are definitely looking like a team to be reckoned with. The Spartans rose to being ranked 15 in the state in the latest GotSoccer ratings after the tournament gold, knocking out Peoria FC and the Q-C Rush in the prelims before taking on and taking out the Q-C Strikers in an electrifying final game. EMSSC Spartans Ranked #15 In Illinois!

The East Moline Silvis Soccer Club Spartans U11 team has moved up to #15 in the state and #70 in the Midwest! The Spartans are the top-ranked team in the Quad-Cities region, and have moved up from #22 last month after a second-place finish in the Legacy Challenge in O’Fallon, near St. Louis, and a first place finish in the Armed Forces Tournament in Moline, after a thrilling penalty kick shootout 7-6 win over the Q-C Strikers.
