There will be no joy in Mudville, or Davenport, again this year. The Quad City River Bandits have canceled their season, in accordance with Major League Baseball’s decision to cancel the entirety of the 2020 minor league season. This is the second year in a row the Bandits’ season has been decimated, as the 2019 season was destroyed due to flooding in downtown Davenport. John Deere Classic Cancellation A Devastating Economic Loss To Quad-Cities

The cornucopia of closures due to coronavirus keeps growing, as what was planned to be the 50th PGA Tour event in the Quad-Cities, the John Deere Classic, is canceled this July. Because of the continuing Covid-19 restrictions around events and public gatherings in the surrounding area, the 2020 JDC at TPC Deere Run in Silvis was canceled, tournament officials announced Thursday. The tournament will, however, continue its commitment to the 2020 Birdies for Charity campaign, including a promise to deliver at least a 5-percent bonus to all participating organizations. Rock Island Parks And Recreation Rolls Out Reopening Plans

As we approach Phase 3 – Recovery in the State plan to Restore Illinois, the Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department is making plans in accordance with the Governor’s guidelines. Phase 3 is tentatively scheduled to begin May 29th. If Phase 3 is put in place, the Department will begin modified programming for groups up to 10. The following sports activities will be offered: mini youth sports skills outdoor camps including basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, xc/running, pickle ball, tennis and golf. Quad City Steamwheelers Season Canceled

The Steamwheelers have ground to a halt. The Indoor Football League, which includes the Quad City Steamwheelers, has decided to cancel the 2020 season. Steamwheeler representatives posted the following on their facebook page: “Though we are extremely disappointed we could not continue play we support the decision 100% as the health and safety for our players, staff and fans are paramount. Rock Island's Augustana College Adding Men's, Women's Water Polo Teams

Rock Island’s Augustana College is ready to make a splash, after announcing this week they’re going to be adding men’s and women’s water polo to its varsity sports lineup beginning with the 2021-22 school year. Director of athletics Mike Zapolski announced in a press release on the Augustana site that the two genders of water polo will give the Vikings 14 women’s sports and 14 men’s sports. East Moline Silvis Soccer Club Players Selected For Illinois ODP Team

Three players from the East Moline Silvis Soccer Club U12 Spartans have made the final cut for the Illinois State Soccer Team in their age group, and seven players overall from EMSSC made the cut! Eli Nache and Jonas Cortez made the final cut for the state team for 2008, and Junior Garibay made the pool team! Other EMSSC players to make their respective teams include Deontae Nache and Austin VandeGeest, who made the 2006 team, Addi Schatteman, who made the girls 2007 team, and Logan Schaeffer, who made the 2007 team! Illinois Youth Soccer has been working to stop the spread of coronavirus through youth soccer by cancelling events through, at least, April 15, with more cancellations potentially being announced. They’ve got the backing of one of the greatest soccer players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo. Today, Ronaldo issued a statement about the coronavirus through his instagram.
