Galvin Fine Arts Center Recoups Some Covid Losses With Grant

St. Ambrose University’s Galvin Fine Arts Center has received $27,300 from the state of Iowa from the program offering economic relief to the state’s arts and culture industry. The grant (announced late last month) is provided through the Iowa Arts & Culture Recovery Program, and will reimburse Galvin for some losses incurred in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Lance Sadlek, director of the Galvin Fine Arts Center, said the grant will cover some of the lost revenue and extra expenses for personal protective equipment (PPE) and labor that were needed to keep Galvin operating and safe... Read More

Davenport native Mark Salter – the longtime confidant and speechwriter for U.S. Sen. John McCain – is co-writing a film script on the late maverick Senator’s cinematic life. An Assumption High School alum whose father was executive director of Mississippi Valley Fair for decades, Salter is penning the biopic with television producer Craig Turk (“The Good Wife,” “FBI”). The film is being made with support from McCain’s family. St. Ambrose Piano Professor Performs Monday on Iowa Public Radio Steinway Series

The day last August that Marian Lee was to be the first female pianist to play for Iowa Public Radio’s (IPR) Steinway Café series, was the day after the devastating derecho swept through the Midwest. The St. Ambrose University associate professor of piano rescheduled her virtual appearance to this Monday at noon. Lee’s pre-recorded 45-minute program (filmed at SAU’s Madsen Hall) will be available on IPR’s Facebook page and Ambrose music department’s Facebook.
