Rock Island/Milan School District 41 celebrated 25 RIHS students furthering their sports careers at the college or university level while practicing social distancing. The school district also awarded the James O’Melia Jr. Athletic Award and the Don Wright Memorial Track Scholarship! Congrats to the seniors who signed Letters of Intent! New Kingdom Trailriders, the Quad Cities’ only PATH accredited therapeutic horseback riding facility reopened June 1st after suspending all programming on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Knowing that riders and community members were struggling physically, mentally, and emotionally due to the shelter-in-place guidelines it was important as an organization, whose mission it is to empower individuals, to begin offering their equine assisted activities safely and securely as soon as possible. June 16th is the last day to register for Competitive Tryouts for East Moline Silvis Soccer Club! Tryouts will be a little different this year due to the Covid-19 restrictions put in place by the state. Join the Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department for a Drive-in Movie in the Park on Saturday, June 13th. Abominable, a family friendly movie, will be the feature presentation at the Campbell Sports Complex located at 8399 29th St W, Rock Island. Gates will open for cars to park at 7:30 pm. All cars must be parked by 8:15 pm, for the movie to begin at 8:30 pm. Staff will be directing vehicles to park every other space so all vehicles are six feet apart. Moline Foundation Gives Out $83,000 in Scholarships

High-school graduates this spring encountered a vastly different end of school year commencement season. As the Covid-19 crisis pushed classes and graduations online (Moline, Rock Island and United Township still plan in-person ceremonies later in the summer), nothing has been normal for graduating seniors and college students. The Moline Foundation made the day for 29 scholarship recipients recently, when they were asked to participate in a Zoom conference call.
