MOLINE, IL — The Western Illinois University Museum Studies Program will attend the Iowa Museum Association 2022 Conference Kick-off Party from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at the Edwards Creative Showroom in Milan, IL. For the first time ever, the Davenport Community School District will have a sanctioned, girls’ wrestling team. Josh Park has been named the head coach and will oversee wrestlers from Davenport North, Central and West High Schools. “I’m every emotion you can think of,” Park said. “We’re making our mark.” Park is no stranger to the mat. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University Health Sciences graduate Kenia Reza recently conducted a study through the McDonough County Health Department and found a presence of West Nile virus in local mosquitoes as part of her program-based internship with the health department. “It was surreal to see my work contribute to helping a community better protect themselves from mosquito borne diseases,” said Reza. Western Illinois University’s International Student Closet is preparing for the Fall 2022 semester by collecting personal and household items. The closet is located at the St. Francis of Assisi Newman Center, 1404 W. University Dr., which is where donations can be dropped off. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Thanks to the generosity of numerous donors, the Western Illinois University DREAMer Scholarship Fund awarded more than $23,000 to four “DREAMers” during the 2021-2022 academic year. Political Science Professor Julia Albarracin-Green, who established the WIU DREAMer Scholarship Fund, hopes to do the same for the 2022-2023 academic year. According to the Migration Policy Institute, more than 33,700 individuals considered Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) reside in Illinois.
