Rock Island Public Library children’s librarians will continue to show up at our Longview Park Library2Go bookmobile stop from 2:30 to 3:30 pm on Wednesdays in August for Full STEAM Ahead. Stop by for some fun with our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) kits. Miss Ranell will bring a new kit each week. This event is great for grades K-6! Continuing a successful partnership it began last year with the old-world elegance of Davenport’s Outing Club, Ballet Quad Cities is kicking off the start of its 25th-anniversary season in the beautiful park-like setting Sunday, Aug. 22, with Ballet on the Lawn. BREAKING NEWS: A group of Illinois Catholic schools have been shut down due to skyrocketing covid numbers, prompting an ominous question of how long they might be closed, and will Illinois public schools follow? As of today, all Illinois Quad-Cities Catholic schools have been shut down until at least Aug. 23, and possibly longer, due to rapidly rising numbers of covid-19 infections in Rock Island County. The Rock Island Public Library’s Hug-a-Book series for pre-kindergarteners returns to an in-person format with a free Saturday art program in Longview Park on August 21.
