Rock Island Public Library hosts Kevin Braafladt, Army Sustainment Command Deputy Historian at the Rock Island Arsenal, for the final lecture in the Army Sustainment Command WWI Lecture Series: The Armistice & The Occupation of Germany. No Jab, No Job? You Could Be Fired For Defying Covid Rules Under New Illinois Law

While 57 percent of the U.S. population (age 18+) has been fully vaccinated, just 39 percent of those between 18 and 24 have been.

If you refuse to be vaccinated or comply with workplace covid mandates, you could be fired from your job in Illinois, according to a new law in the state. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has signed into law an amendment to the Illinois Health Care Right of Conscience Act allowing employers to penalize employees if they refuse to follow workplace rules about covid, including mandatory vaccinations, testing, and other mandates. The Illinois Senate voted 31-24 to approve the proposal; the measure passed out of the House on a 64-52-2 vote. Pritkzer signed the amendment into law Monday. The Health Care Right... Read More

The new, revamped Blue Cat Brew Pub has reopened TODAY at its traditional spot, 113 18th St., Rock Island! The revamped brew pub and restaurant will feature a number of old favorites on its beer and food menu as well as some new flavors. A temporary menu (see pictures) will be available initially as the new Cat makes its transition from the previous incarnation as Big Swing Brewing Company. Illinois Junior High CLOSING Due To Covid Cases; Are More On The Way?

An Illinois Junior High, Edison Junior High School in Rock Island, has been closed effective immediately due to a major spike in covid-19 cases, the Rock Island School District announced today. Edison will close for an adaptive pause due to an increase in positive cases of Covid-19, the announcement said. In an e-mail, the District didn’t mention the number of cases but did say there was a rapid spike in the number of both students and staff having contracted and in quarantine from covid cases and potential exposure. Local educators Julie Eisenband and Chris Strunk noticed a problem when it came to the representation of immigrant and refugee students in their classrooms.
