Graduate students at Western Illinois University have been given the unique opportunity to reach out to a community in Honduras, even in the age of COVID-19. Graduate students in WIU’s Health Sciences program have been working alongside a Honduran community as public health consultants. The program, known as Public Health Telebrigades, a part of Global Brigades, utilizes programs like Zoom to allow students at Western the ability to impact others internationally. “Do not desire to fit in. Desire to oblige yourselves to lead” – Illinois Poet Laureate Gwendolyn Brooks. The new Gwendolyn Brooks Memorial Park Dedication will take place on the Western Illinois University Macomb campus beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 12. The Park is located on the corner of Adams and Normal streets on the WIU-Macomb campus, on the site of the former Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center (GBCC). MACOMB/MOLINE/FREEPORT, IL – Western Illinois University and Highland Community College (HCC) in Freeport recently signed an agreement to create an education pathway from high school through college for HCC students to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with WIU. McMeekan Named Western Illinois University Employee of the Month

Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety Information Technology Technical Associate Peter McMeekan has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for May. McMeekan began working at WIU, and in the Office of Public Safety, as a microcomputer support specialist II in September 1997. He was reclassified by audit to microcomputer support specialist III in May 1999. McMeekan audited to procedures and systems analyst II in March 2003 and to procedures and systems analyst III in October 2006. He moved to his current position in January 2017.
