Western Illinois Multicultural Center to Host Annual Fall Open House Sept. 1

The Multicultural Center at Western Illinois University will host its annual open house for the campus and Macomb communities from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. Activities will take place on the center’s lawn, as well as inside the building. The open house will also feature free food and a chance to meet representatives of student organizations housed in the center, along with music and dancing. Western Illinois University Alumni Council President Establishes President Huang International Student Scholarship

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL — Western Illinois University international students have new scholarship opportunities at WIU, thanks to the efforts of 2005 and 2010 alumnus Matthew Toland. Toland, who serves as the WIU Alumni Council president, recently established the President Huang International Student Scholarship to honor the inauguration of Guiyou Huang as WIU’s 12th president. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – While testing is no longer required for unvaccinated individuals, Western Illinois University health and risk management officials encourage continued frequent testing (at least once per week) for all individuals (vaccinated and unvaccinated). WIU-Macomb students, faculty, and staff can attend free weekly COVID-19 antigen-based (simple nasal swab) testing clinics in the University Union Student Organization Center (SOC) (basement level). MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University Health Sciences graduate Kenia Reza recently conducted a study through the McDonough County Health Department and found a presence of West Nile virus in local mosquitoes as part of her program-based internship with the health department. “It was surreal to see my work contribute to helping a community better protect themselves from mosquito borne diseases,” said Reza.
