Miss Iowa 2023, Alyssa Goethe, visited students at McKinley Elementary School yesterday morning. Having been diagnosed with diabetes at 11 years old, she spoke about her personal journey and emphasized the importance of treating others with kindness. She is also the daughter of Carla Goethe, a kindergarten teacher at McKinley. Alyssa happens to be a music teacher in Des Moines, and it’s safe to say that the students were absolutely delighted to sing a Disney song with Iowa’s princess! The DCSD Junior High String Festival was hosted at the West High School Auditorium on Saturday, October 14th. 100 seventh and eighth grade students from our five junior high schools rehearsed for four hours with guest clinician, Dr. Kevin Price-Brenner, from Dubuque Hempstead High School.
