Quad-Cities Cultural Groups Among Those Awarded $2 Million-Plus In Iowa Grants

Several Quad-Cities cultural organizations and projects were among 176 grants totaling just over $2 million, announced Friday by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs (IDCA), for works in art, film, history, and culture. Another major Quad-Cities cultural event is biting the dust due to Covid-19. Event organizers from Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP) on Wednesday announced the cancellation of Alternating Currents, originally scheduled for August 27-30, as a regional event across five Quad-Cities downtown areas. The highly anticipated “Clash of Legends” is officially upon us! Quad Cities’ fighting legends, Michael Nunn and Pat Miletich, were originally scheduled to fight on Apr 18 at the TaxSlayer Center. However, due to Covid-related issues, the battle was rescheduled to this Saturday Jul 18 at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds (2815 W Locust St. Davenport). The “Clash of Legends” will take place outdoors, in a temporary venue in the parking lot. The lot is located directly south of the Fair Center, where an after-party will take place. The Putnam Museum and Science Center (1717 W. 12th St., Davenport) reopened to members on Wednesday, July 8 and will open to the public on Wednesday, July 15 – under new guidelines to help ensure the health, safety and enjoyment of staff and visitors. After being closed since mid-March, the museum will be open Wednesday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Up to 50 guests will be permitted in the museum at any given time to allow for social distancing. The Quad City Symphony Orchestra (QCSO) plans to reschedule its Quad City Bank & Trust Riverfront Pops event to Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m., back at its longtime home at Davenport’s LeClaire Park. It previously was scheduled for Arsenal Island (for the second time) on Aug. 15.
