The Quad City Storm and UnityPoint Health® –Trinity are excited to announce the third annual Hockey Fights Cancer ice painting event will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, January 31 at the TaxSlayer Center.  Lavender paint and paint brushes will be provided for the general public to paint the names of friends and family members who have battled or are currently battling cancer on the ice.  The names will remain displayed on the ice for the Storm’s Hockey Fights Cancer Night game on Saturday February 5. River Bandits Donate $40,000 to Genesis Family Connects

The Quad Cities River Bandits have made a second generous challenge grant, this one for $40,000, to support Genesis Philanthropy and the Genesis Family Connects program. The River Bandits, champions on the field in the High-A Central League in 2021, continued as champions off the field for Genesis Foundation initiatives benefiting children. Amy Clark, CEO of Rock Island Housing Finance Corporation (RICHFC), a non-profit affiliate of the Greater Metropolitan Area Housing Authority of R.I. County (GMAHA) is excited to announce the recent funding awards for a new multifamily housing development and a pilot homeownership program to serve residents of Rock Island County. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University Admissions and Records Coordinator Sheryl Harty has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for January 2022. Harty was hired at WIU in June 2013 as an admissions records representative in Graduate Studies and was reclassified by audit to admissions records officer in Graduate Studies in July 2015. The celebration is held every year to honor the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Rock Island High School senior Jaylin Randle was awarded the M.L. Lockhart Scholarship. On Friday, January 21, 2022, the Iowa Chapter of Certified Public Accountants is personally donating a new book to several first-grade classrooms in the Davenport Community School District. Local CPAs will be reading, “When I Grow Up I Want to Be An Accountant,” by Dr. Adrian L. Mayse, CPA, to these first graders. The goal of this book donation is to educate young students about the accounting profession and encourage minority students, specifically, to consider learning more about this field. Illinois Begins Evictions Again, But Project NOW Can Help Residents Stay In Their Homes

Project NOW has partnered with the 14th Judicial Circuit in Rock Island County, the Rock Island County Bar Association, Prairie State Legal Services, Inc., and the Salvation Army to develop an Eviction Diversion Program (EDP) which has been operating for months. The goal of the program is to keep tenants housed while ensuring that small business owners are reimbursed back rent.
